Well frankly, while I think Patrick Stewart was brilliant and Brent Spiner OK, most of the regular cast on that show were mediocre at BEST, Frakes included.

Cheers remained a great show but when Shelly Long left, I don't think Kirstie Allie managed to fill that void, even from day one.

I'm presuming Vince Gilligan (sp?) has big things planned down the road for Walt Jr - so definitely would not count him out.

I like Betty - the 'ideal' of womanhood for woman raised  in that era was to be a beautiful, affluent housewife, and its good for the show  to keep a representation of that around, even if on the periphery. For some reason, the first character that comes to mind for me is Troi on Start Trek Next Generation. For somebody who was supposed to be able to suss out people's emotions she sure had a terrible track record in preventing deceitful people from dong bad things on the ship.

Uh, to say the film had NOTHING to do with this is just plain ridiculous. Obviously it 'resonated' for the killer, not to mention that yeah, the PR from opening day was also probably a factor. But if not the Dark Knight, the guy probably would have found inspiration in some other nihilistic book, movie, tv show, video…
