Fair enough. I'm in that category, but it's only because they squandered all the goodwill they built up with their first couple albums about ten years ago.

Plenty would assert that the first two are the only good ones and that the rest are bad (see: every AVC discussion ever involving Weezer). This is subjective of course, but those are the people I was referring to above.
A couple EPs and one LP in 14 years isn't exactly what I'd call "remaining busy." Sharp always struck me as the kind of guy who probably put his Weezer money in the bank and was content to coast along afterwards, working sporadically when the mood struck. Living in a one room flat, wearing the same shirt for a week…
It's "throw," not "hand." Although it does make me chuckle to re-imagine the scene minus the bottomless pit, with the two of them just standing next to each other arguing.
This guy occupies that awesome space where he's well-known and in demand, but where he's an actor first rather than a celebrity who also acts. There's no "I haven't seen his films, but I know he's dating so-and-so" with a person like this. You either know him for his work or you don't know him at all, which is the…
I thought of that too, but then I decided he may have meant it literally, since Ford was pretty far removed from his carpenter days by then.
Any Dwight Twilley fans here? I've just begun checking him out and he seems worth getting into.
I always found it odd that Petty says Howie Epstein finally provided the high harmonies he had always been searching for, when all along Lynch was pretty darn good in that role in their live performances.
The second album gets overshadowed too. I love it though. To me, on the second album they perfected what they were trying to do with the first album. A little tighter, a little better production-wise.
I would love to have an 8 hour long "superfan" version of the documentary.
Agreed. From what I've read, the woman didn't seem to have any interest in defending herself against the complaint, so it probably would have been relatively cheap and easy for Oberst to obtain a default judgment against her. But the point of a libel suit is to publicly restore the damage done to the plaintiff's…
I think you're saying a false accusation of rape should be a criminal offense where the state brings charges as opposed to the victim having to bring a civil suit. I believe both are possibilities in most jurisdictions. But I feel like I'm possibly misinterpreting you. Please clarify if you like.
I was about to falsely accuse someone of rape until reading this story. Guess I'll have to falsely accuse them of sedition instead.
I have not heard any of the reissued Island albums. I just have all the original albums (not including the post-Hunter Mott albums) and a double CD retrospective that has some outtakes/b-sides type stuff. Not being a completist, it would be tough for me to justify investing in reissues, although I'm sure there's…
Well, you clearly are the master of Mott minutiae. I can't say for sure which sleeve the US version came with because my copy came with one of those sleeves that has a bunch of other Atlantic albums pictured on it. All of which came out after Brain Capers so I know it wasn't the original sleeve.
That's great. I didn't know about that. I have a US copy that I bought a few years ago. There is a 100% chance Chris Blackwell did a spit take when he saw the invoice for the Zorro masks. Also, the mask thing is neat since Brain Capers was almost called "Sticky Fingers," which of course has the most famous album…
That's an honest comment, which I appreciate a lot. So if you felt the need to explain your actions after the fact, the honest explanation would pretty much be what you said in the first two paragraphs, not "gee whiz, i've been an LGBT activist since i was in the womb, i'll never do it again, etc." No one would…
During the recording of Mott's Brain Capers album, Andy Johns and Guy Stevens dressed like cowboy bandits (masks and guns included) in the studio to set the appropriate mood. That's commitment right there.
Here's a game I like to play:
you added some stuff to your initial post via edit, making it somewhat less terrible. i was actually planning to comment on that when i had the chance, even prior to seeing your new comment. like i said, i'm not saying they're the greatest band ever (and i don't think anyone has ever claimed that LZ is tough to…
