Brainscan is an underrated horror movie and one of my favorites from the 90s. Yes, the whole virtual reality bordered on ridiculous (or crossed it, I guess), but it still was an original plot that didn't rely on gore or cheap tricks to scare or build suspense. I think Lanford, Illinois should have received a mention. It was a fictional town, but definitely had some original character - from the Buy 'n Bag, to the Lanford Lunchbox … to the Lanford Mall. It sums up midwest livin' probably more than any television show from that era.
