What am I missing here with this "B"? This was one of the best hours of television, ever, much less just this season on Game of Thrones. The expert reviewer gave the episode an A and right now both viewer pools give it an A- (which is the equivalent of an A what with all the trolls who vote F).

This episode and all its jokes worked extremely well.
I think the answer to your worry is how this show (so far, at least) has treated magic. Magic is not really seen in this story as a silver bullet that trumps everything else and solves everything. Magic is treated as unpredictable and sort of the last resort of desperate actors.
Correction to the review: the soldiers used to intimidate littlefinger are NOT Slynt's gold cloak city watch. They are clearly the red cloaks, the Lannister's family guard.

I think we are all looking at the show the wrong way. It's actually the funniest show currently airing on tv. It's devolved so quickly and thoroughly into effective self-parody it would have been genius had it been intentional.
