'Grittier,' man. Grittier.
'Grittier,' man. Grittier.
I always expect cannibalism in Westerns.
Wow, there wasn't a single thing I liked about Slow West.
I'm still pissed that Brokeback Mountain lost to Crash.
A good friend of mine pointed out that there's a strong Smithers/Burns vibe going on there. Somehow I hadn't noticed on first viewing, but now it's unmissable.
Internalized oppression is a useful concept here. The notion that 'because women made the accusations, they can't have arisen as the result of patriarchal/misogynistic beliefs' is flat-out untrue. Phyllis Schlafly is a good modern example of a woman who has bought into the patriarchy hook, line, and sinker.
Er, no. No typo. Not everyone convicted ended up being killed. If all convictions had led to executions, you'd have had a 20 women killed/7 men killed ratio.
Give his latest a try as well.
But the word choice. This individual is punching downward as hard as his/her (probably his) flaccid little arms will allow. That's non-standard f or SJWs. Antithetical to their stated purpose, even.
Because she said she could save his? I wouldn't trust a 'good turn' grounded in the Wolf's desire to not die in the next couple minutes/hours.
A SJW parody account shouldn't be using language better left to rabid MRA websites. If that's what this was meant to be, it failed in a major way.
I think this was Walking Dead's answer to Hardhome.
I seem to remember Holmes talking about a serial killer's apartment having been decorated in such a way as to reveal the man's 'innermost inanities.' Yes, Miller is very good with that sort of dialogue.
Clinton being a pragmatist is only useful insofar as she doesn't sell out everyone to the left of Joe the Plumber before she even starts negotiating with Congress. I have no confidence that she would ever stick to progressive principles because she doesn't actually share them, she just grafts them onto her political…
I'm still waiting for the media to bring the word 'Dominionism' into their discussions of Cruz. Trump is the ugliest of ugly Americans, but I fear Cruz is worse.
Bowie would have been awesome as Saruman.
Rape is torture. Not too many torturers get redemption arcs.
I know you didn't ask, but *my* reaction to the second half of the book went something like "Holy shit I am never reading another book by Connie Willis ever." And I haven't.
I enjoyed Jordan's writing, even during the slow bits. Sanderson's prose is another matter. Jordan's fantasy worldbuilding is the best I've ever seen.
All three books are totally worth the effort. There's a description in the first book (I think) of a guy wearing upper-class 18th-century English garb, complete with the patch of felt glued to his face, that I remember to this day as one of the funniest passages I've ever read.
