I never, ever got how that was a good match.  Never. Their one good moment was in that ep when she becomes alexander's godmother, but otherwise their characters could not have been more poorly matched.  I really disliked this pairing (even in hypothetical future) and was so glad they didn't continue it in other series.

Sadly, @TheTuckPendletonMachine:disqus , this is an issue that is confirmed in Voyager canonically.  Sigh.
