Indeed. I should have been more clear. There's no stated reason for the increase in appraised value. But digging into the public appraisal data, it appears that almost all home values in my area were "increased" to the maximum percentage allowable under law.

You absolutely can. The market is nuts right now. I just know that I don't really want to live anywhere else. We didn't go to the top of our budget, so we should be able to pay it off in 20 years or so. A mortgage is a risk, but what isn't?

Yeah, the property taxes in Texas the last few years are pretty much hell. Home ownership is a bunch of work. But I think this works better for my family than renting.
