My understanding is that the script editor and McGoohan were in constant conflict over the show, with McGoohan wanting to go more symbolic and the editor demanding more realism. Perhaps that contributed.

I"ve seen some of it, but was interrupted before I could finish it. I'll try to give it another go, but I've never been too happy with any of the Disc adaptations. I'm too wedded to the versions in my head.
