@avclub-94d231f11cdc1fae024849f33f7a7156:disqus Get out. Next you'll tell me that Donald Sutherland was in it.

I just think, if the writers have to work that hard to make a character interesting, maybe the character isn't interesting?

Buffy always led the baddies away from civilians to deal with them. Can't we have a movie about her? One where Donald Sutherland doesn't get to rewrite his part because he doesn't think his character should die.

I don't get it.

That's too bad, it's a really good anecdote that starts with a story about how he himself stole a joke (on accident) when he was starting out, and ponders the nature of creativity and all that before going into the real story, except funnier than I'm saying it.

I embarrassingly wondered if that was from the upcoming R.I.P.D. (it was the only movie I could think of where Ryan Reynolds wields a big gun), and was surprised both that Oswalt was in it and that Jessica Biel still looks that good.

It's not just you. It makes me feel old to say it but I'm just not interested. The one time I set up a Facebook account was when the Google Scrabble gadget went offline and that was the only place to play it.

If that was a reference to how Walken used to edit the punctuation out of his scripts so it wouldn't affect his readings, then bravo, sir.

@avclub-e56eea9a45b153de634b23780365f976:disqus  Wrong. "Data" can be used as singular or plural. But the singular usually makes more sense, especially in the Internet age, when the number of specific data points (datum) is so large. It makes more sense, now, on most subjects, to use data as a mass noun rather than a

STOP USING DATA AS A PLURAL, YOU KNOW YOU ONLY DO IT TO MAKE YOURSELF SOUND SMART

With a name as big as Lucas', you have to make a pretty bad movie to have trouble finding a distributor. Apparently he took that as a challenge.

Because it's the Rapture and Baptists are all about that? I think, I don't really understand the difference between them and any other flavor of Christianity. Except Mormons, they get to have lots of wives, I know that.

The review is better than the grade. "Sporadically delivers gut-busting laughs" is more than you can say about most comedies.

The nerd community seems to be really embracing this movie

Space opera is never a good thing, and I don't think anyone in the world except George Lucas actually likes it. That's one of the things that made Firefly (and the original Star Wars) so great: people in space acting like actual people. Why is every goddamn piece of fiction set in space so stuffy and dull?

Counterpoint: NO.

Random crap Jackson made up is "literature" now?

Terri Hatcher in Lois and Clark.

I was including Shutter Island, but I guess braindead isn't technically dead. Although it's debatable whether one still "exists" if the mind is gone but the body is still ali-OW OW QUIT IT I'M SORRY

Actually you're right. There was the Secret Service lady. But that was more of a joke; Brie Larson seemed like they were setting him up with an actual girlfriend, as in a recurring character.
