No, this is my first Curtis Sittenfeld read.  (Confession:  I didn't know she was a SHE until I went to Amazon looking for other books by the author and visited the author page.)  It's hard to explain how I'm not hating the book and would gladly read something else by the author, but I just dislike the main

I have not read Prep, but I've heard plenty of good things about it.  It's in my queue (meaning, I'm on the library waiting list for it).  I'll be interested to see if Sittenfeld has a tendency towards writing navel-gazing narrators, or if it was just something about this particular narrator that irked me.  Maybe

I am trying to ween myself of my Kindle book purchasing habit by utilizing my library's ebook lending option.  I just finished Wise Men by Stuart Nadler and now I'm reading American Wife: A Novel by Curtis Sittenfeld.  I took me a while into the book before I realized this was a not-so-vague reimagingin of the story

Heart-Shaped Box wasn't a favorite of mine either.  It started strong, but it kinda lost its steam for me at the end.  Twentieth Century Ghosts has a number of good stories, but what I really recommend is his second novel, Horns.  It is so awesome (and I believe currently being made into a film with that Harry Potter

I have never read any Neil Gaiman or much fantasy for that matter, but have heard a lot about him while listening to some horror podcasts.  When I saw a couple of his books on sale as Kindle Daily Deals,  I decided to give them a try.  I bought Good Omens and American Gods.  I haven't started either yet (Kindle Daily

Perfect Stranger. It was no invisible Child or Hider in the House, but they did a good job of relaying that movie's dated, evils-of-the-Internts bugnuttiness.

I'm with you. I lean more towards HDTGM and WHM, but I also listen to FH (and Yeah, It's That Bad) now and then. I appreciate the different styles. I may be a little partial towards WHM because they picked my suggestion during Listener Request Month.

She doesn't throw Dominic West under the bus at all. She praises his performance and that of the other actors. She mostly criticizes the marketing and is a bit miffed that people didn't get that the movie was meant to be an over-the-top comic book fantasy film. I didn't read the comics, but I saw the movie and I

That didn't bother me, mostly because I've seen the movie and its plot IS just that cray-cray and confusing.  But then, that never really bothers me, even when I haven't seen the movie.  I guess they aren't as good as other bad movie podcasts at laying out the plot and making sure the audience understands and I DO

No love for the How Did This Get Made? folks struggling to understand/explain the plot of Sleepaway Camp? I have already listened to that episode three times. It is freaking hilarious. That movie is bananas and their attempts to hash out who was who and their relations was one of the funniest things I've heard all

I put in a last minute call for The Halle Berry/Bruce Willis vehicle "Perfect Stranger," but if the choice were between that and "Flowers in the Attic", I'd pick the latter. Sweet Jesus! That movie (and all those damn creepy books) is bananas!
