When Saul first laid out the facts to him Estes realized that his goose was going to be cooked as soon as the revelations about Brody came out, as they eventually must.  But if the attack gets foiled, Abu Nasir captured, and Brody gets killed by "Iranian terrorists" it'll neatly clean things up for everyone involved.
