It's the same problem with depicting gangster life in the movies. No matter how much you try to show the degradation and violence of it, you end up glamorizing the action.

There is an old academic problem in medieval manuscripts best summarized by a former professor of mine as "Do knights shit?"

Ed Wood's complete sincerity in what he was doing makes him so intriguing. He had no budget, very limited schedules and not very much skill with a camera or a script. He was making films expected to generate a quick profit. And yet there's no cynicism in his films, and you can tell he was, in his own odd way,

I think The Simpsons will start generating think pieces again when it announces its departure. As it stands, it's post-Bill Berry R.E.M. — usually competent, not all that original and no longer driving the conversation.

Yeah — Glen or Glenda? is a tough slog. No one warns you about the 20 minutes of stock wrestling footage dropped in the middle of the narrative.
