They are changing that for the sequel due out in the holiday season this year. Hopefully, they will also eliminate the redundant pick-pocketing and listening/spying/sitting missions.
I don't think it's under-appreciated by a lot of gamers in their 30s or 20s, but go ask the majority of players today if they've ever heard of Bionic Commando.

Riff, that U-Boat was awesome. I went to the MoSI about two years ago while visiting Chicago, and I still tell people how awesome that thing was.

Finally, other people admit that T3 was adequate rather than crappy. It only took a few years.
At first, Fallout 3 wasn't impressing me that much. But the further you explore, the more you become engrossed in the world. It's not a big priority for anyone who likes more linear designs, like Bioshock's.
I really enjoyed the Pitt. Narrow objectives or not, there was an atmosphere and characters that were truly original and interesting.
