You're probably right, but IF they wanted to go there, they could use the explanation that Ted was confused to the number of "sandwiches" he had. I don't think I actually believe the theory, but the folks who do have put a lot of effort into finding answers to things like that.

I haven't been reading the reviews until this season, so I'm not sure where the commentariat stands on some of the theories on the end of the show, but I feel like the "going into labor at 2:00 a.m." thing has a feeling of foreboding to it. Perhaps it's because I first saw this movie as a kid, but I don't hate it and don't really understand the hate.  As good as the first? No. A horrible unwatchable trainwreck?? I sure don't think so.

Tad Williams' "Otherland" series.  Please. It begs for the same one book per season adaptation treatment that GoT is getting.  Varied, interesting characters and settings, and I think the blend of live action and computer graphics needed could be pretty readily accomplished today.
