The air of tomfoolery is part of the ethnic humor.

Martin explicitly says the reason he is traveling with Ethan (John Wayne) was because he knew if he didn't Ethan would murder Debbie. There are plenty of other scenes like that. I have literally no idea how you can write that post unless you have never seen The Searchers, and in fact have probably never seen a John

I mean, I love Blazing Saddles but it doesn't have anything deeper to say about racism than "Racists sure are dumb, aren't they?"

BITING satire!

Oh, right, yeah brainfart. Carry on then.

Yeah, but I'm hoping that pretension will drive whatever interests are behind the film to push for it to be something more. There is a decent sci-fi thriller buried in AC's mess.

What?

I can't help judging somebody whose immediate thought to hearing "Michael Jackson" and "bad" is "pedophile".

Groot-clops is looking pretty bad, in the Michael Jackson sense.

On the one hand, it would be very easy to churn out a standard, crappy video game movie. On the other hand, Assassin's Creed has always had a (largely unjustified) pretension to being high concept, and the pedigree on this film is looking pretty crazy.

Between Dishonored and Dragon Age: Inquisition and probably some others, the "soiree level" seems to be becoming a "thing" in gaming, and I am all for it. There have been far less interesting mission hooks run into the ground.

Hey good point, let's apply the logic to other contexts! For example, rape is bad, do I don't really see any problems with Birth of a Nation.

Good for Eli Roth's bank account and fans of schlock horror. Bad for the natives of the Amazon, the current sufferers of genocide enabled by negative media portrayal.

All honesty, as much as I like Cumerdoodles, Basil Rathbone and all the others, the definitive portrayal will always be Jeremy Brett. He lacks some of the quirks and creativity of other performances but he nails the character as written by Doyle perfectly.

All snark aside this is exactly the sort of project Luhrmann is perfect form.

I thought that was the line until I read this article.
