And all else aside, it would be nice to have a movie on the Vietnam War about, you know, the Vietnamese. It is shameful the way Hollywood and US popular culture treats them.

It is sort of the ultimate epilogue that the person that chest thumping FACK YAH I'M FROM BAHSTON AMERICA Mark Wahlberg assaulted served alongside American soldiers in the Vietnam War. I'm no fan of the hero worship soldiers get but this does give a whole new level to the story.

Genre ghetto.

Hey! I like Jango Fett!

No kidding. The category of "brainless action flick" is impossibly wide and diverse, so it is always nice to see someone talk about what sort of brainless action flick is under consideration.

How hard could it be? Their identities are on court record.

Oh yeah, I don't blame him at all, I think it is hilarious and I'm sure he does too.

OK, now we know he's fucking with us.

He has still been a lot more succesful than many realize.

Everything about that photoshoot is wonderful. It was explicitly designed to go viral, openly expressed its intentions, and has remained viral primarily because of obnoxious internet hipsters telling everyone how cool they are because they didn't like it, which has naturally lead to it being even more viral.

Honestly, "Hangover" is pretty good. K-Pop goes surprisingly well with Snoop.

Also, its mega popularity is kind of beautiful. pretty much all of the other top videos are the same sort of thing: Hot 100 pop songs by celebrity entertainers. Psy was a moderately popular South Korean musician who was entirely unknown outside of K-Pop who rocketed to fame through a completely bonkers song and video.

I didn't know what that was, so I checked Wiki:

Literally. I think the Criterion edition comes with a fold out character guide.

Fukusaku directed all of them, and he generally considered them his masterpiece. Given his extremely high quality oeuvre (Battle Royale is the one people know today, but Sympathy for the Underdog, Graveyard of Honor are better) it is quite an endorsement.

But, like, to what end? What is it satirizing? The whole THIS IS THE 21ST CENTURY shtick makes it painfully obvious he needs to look outside his upper middle class coastal bubble every now and then.

That complain actually rather bothers me. Yes, Kyrat is a fictionalized version of Nepal, in much the same was as GTA takes place in fictionalized versions of US cities. Far Cry 3 deserved all the cultural criticism it got for throwing a Mighty Whitey into a lazy blend of SE Asian, Indonesian, and Polynesian

Holy shit how is Olivia de Haviland still alive?
