This is two weeks late but fucking THANK YOU. Martin's raging hard on for high nobility is one of the most irritating things about the show/book.
Is there any reason not to just skip the first few episodes?
What about the ending? "Oh, I've been stabbed in Egypt and I am close to death!" [quick cut to Rome, Vorenus lies in bed] "Oh, I am still in basically the same condition!"
Those people can suck it. If you can't enjoy the BBC I, Claudius you don't deserve to.
HEY GUYS
Bowie's package is never secure.
He definitely has a personality, and is in general a very interesting character. Character depth isn't just giving mopey monologues.
Well, true, he didn't exactly do it in the least crazy-pants way. My guess is that he didn't want to deal with all of the people second guessing him, but it was strange.
He felt like he wasn't really in control of it, though, that he wouldn't be able to turn the ship around from the road it was heading. So he scuttled it.
Why do people still ask him this? I feel like he has explained this a million times: he came to realize that his satire of racism was reinforcing racism. I think he said the inciting incident was when he saw the reaction to his fairy sketch and couldn't tell whether people were laughing at the racism or with it.
Meh. I don't particularly care for Billy Joel, but this feature is good when the person gives reasons for the hate. This is just "I hate it because it sucks".
Even if you don't like folk or blues:
The reskinning is a problem, but what I think is even worse is that it is always the same place, chosen from a small handful of generic major American cities. I mean, cheers for going with Chicago instead of New York, but wouldn't it be more fun and original to play in Mumbai, Nairobi or Rio? Is anyone thrilled at the…
This is bullshit. How are the people supposed to drive back the White Walkers now?
Eh, sort of. My area is a bit before the Early medieval period, but my reading of the current scholarship (admittedly largely Chris Wickham) generally points me towards thinking that the idea of the "Germanic" nature of the early medieval states has largely been rejected. There were a few institutions that survived,…
>Zoroastrianism forbids slavery.
Silly me to think I was the first pedant…
I'm an ancient historian, and while I get why you might want to criticize the history in this movie, your "historical criticism paragraph" is wrong in pretty much every statement:
I don't really see how "America's Funniest Home Video for the twenty first century" equals "indicative of twenty first century culture" except in the very small arena of TV shows where people comment on home videos, so that might be an overreaction.
