Kevin Smith sometimes forgets that Clerks is famous because of a conversation about Star Wars and a conversation about thirty seven blowjobs, not because he is David fucking Mamet.

You did it Hollywood! Your bravery did it!
But everyone is making a huge deal out of Affleck not getting the nomination, as if the personified Academy murdered his dog or something. And Affleck winning every other directing award and it is being treated as some sort of justice.
Life of Pi has a worldwide gross of something like 500,000,000 USD. I'm not exactly alone in liking it.
True, but is means that she has at least found success on her own post Buffy, unlike literally every other cast member besides Boreanaz and maybe Anthony Stewart Head.
Why is there so much outrage that Affleck wasn't nominated for Best Director? It's a great film but not exactly an auteur work. Is it just because he is a Hollywood star?
It also really isn't that well directed. I enjoyed it, but it is pretty much a collection of West Wing style tracking shot conversations (camera tracks back, turns left, tracks back, turns left, ad nauseum). Life of Pi is a thousand times better directed, but I guess Ang Lee is a world renowned Taiwanese filmmaker…
Goddamn it you know what I meant.
Everything Sarah Michelle Gellar signs on to takes her one step farther away from being the star of Buffy, and one step closer to being the star of everything she has done besides Buffy. She should quit while he is still kind of ahead.
"Dave Barry's Arsenal of Hijinks" would be a good name for a rock band.
I took advantage of Hulu's Criterion films to marathon to marathon French New Wave and Italian neorealism films I haven't seen by needed to. In order, this was Truffaut's "The Soft Skin" and "400 Blows", Agnes Vardas' "Cleo From 5 to 7", Robert Bresson's "The Pickpocket", Roberto Rossellini's "Rome, Open City" and…
I'm thinking Boris is power behind throne.
I didn't like what was done with Troy. I get that his character has changed so much from season one that it is practically retconned, but his utter lack of knowledge of sex tonight just felt off for a former captain of the football team. Troy is goofy, not infantile. I mean, wasn't his entire end of season…
I'm reasonably certain this is the first sitcom to make a running joke out of a ukiyo-e painting.
I feel that a lot of the criticism of the film tends to be swiping at its message, which I think is grossly unfair. If we can take Leni Riefenstahl's work on its own terms, presumably we can take Ang Lee's.

I strongly disagree. For one, the human face is an extremely powerful emotional trigger, which is why a well delivered monologue in closeup can sometimes be far more powerful than a display of action—think Bibi Andersson's description of her fantasy like sexual encounter in Persona. I think that Suraj Sharma knocks it…

I actually think that is the problem with a lot of British film and television—black and Indian characters are frequent, but there is rarely a portrayal of black or Indian culture or perspective.
This movie is going to make so much rubbernecker money.
