@ root, I'm busy at the moment (actually doing work) so I don't have the time for a really thorough response. But please look again at what your "initial assertion" was to see why it disqualifies your opinion that the extra criticism FPSs receive is warranted.

You're right, and I can't speak for the author's intent, but it's activated later in the game through a suit add-on, and becomes a constant passive ability not requiring activation once unlocked.
