While the book has its problems, it is much more gripping than the movie (to adults, at least). There is a real feeling of danger. The movie has a lot of Spielberg's technical greatness, but it's missing tension.

Nothing against West End Girls, but don't be ridiculous. Music tastes vary, of course, but there are a few really good songs there. Kiss would be my first choice for overall song quality. But there are some strong pop songs there from Madonna, Cyndi, and the Bangles. I personally can't take Lionel Richie, but there's

As I recall, the big complaint against Alanis at the beginning was that You Oughta Know was so different from her previous stuff (which nobody in the US was familiar with), it felt like she was trying to cash in on the grunge trend, and she wasn't really authentic. There was probably some truth to this. But, then

Semi-true. Ironic followed very soon on radio and MTV, so people had a chance to realize it wasn't going to be all like You Oughta Know. Anyway, most people I know who bought it (including me) were not really annoyed, since even the calmer song were so catchy.

    This was painfully embarrassing.

I saw this. I must've read the book (which is great) at least 50 times to my son, so I had to. It's actually not bad at all. B is about right. Of course the plot makes no sense and there's all sorts of silly slapstick for the kids. But there are also a few really funny lines that adults will enjoy, the acting is good,

Did he actually say "unfuckwithable?" Maybe I'll sprinkle my conversations with that, just to piss off my wife, friends, coworkers, and everyone else who might hear it.

    Marillion - "Kayleigh"

Actual first line from that IMDB bio: "Model, producer, actress, and award-winning rodeo barrel racer…"

    Now they're just being mean.

For the first time in a while, I found Hatesong interesting. I never liked Collective Soul but I did like this song.

That rake scene scared the shit out of me.

Yeah, I never watched Little House, so I don't know how I just happened across this one. Maybe it was super-hyped by the network. It was really strange. Not just a mime rape, but also a religious extremist father, a "good" boy doing a peeping tom thing, lots of veiled sex references, etc. I think it weirded me out

    tl;dr

I don't think anybody has forgotten Taupin. His name is mentioned in almost any article about Elton's music.

Correction: Liberal arts grad students were totally into it. Nobody else.

Hey, nice song choice, and, to my limited knowledge, typical Fugazi. I've found they tend to draw my attention with interesting, inventive, semi-melodic songs like this one. But their albums can't sustain this level of interest. Still, a very cool band and I'm very happy I got to see them at a small venue where their

"China has never invaded another country"

The book is a good read but seriously flawed. The God philosophy stuff is at college freshman level. The ending is way too literal after what came before, and the way it reviews past events is embarrassing. But the survival part is really good.
