    You can argue about what might happen in real life all you want. But the point of the scene is to show you that he has "won". He's alive, and he knows where the money is. That's why he's laughing.

    I read the book, and basically hated it. It's one of those annoying books where the writing is good enough to keep you turning the pages, but the plot is totally contrived, and then falls to pieces by the end.
