    Nice
Cool, my favorite TV Club reviewer has written a book aimed at people half a generation younger than me. (A full generation younger? What's a generation, 20 years?)

Well, I always thought that line basically confirms that he's talking about suicide. Also, there are possibly other signs in the song… "Longing my life away", "I'll never worry… it's all gonna fade"

    I Started a Joke
I always thought this was about Jesus, because of the quoted line.

    Film
I saw this on VCR. Super creepy and worth watching. Cracks in my wall freaked me out for a few nights after watching this movie.

    Lisa is a reporter?
5 years of NR and I don't think we ever see her report anything. Certainly nothing important enough for NY mag to ever have heard of her.

    Stars
Isn't Gamesters the ep with the much-parodied conversation about stars that Kirk has with an alien babe?

I also found it jarring after listening the hell out of Near Truths. Maybe I'll give it another shot.

Is that the same performance of Soul Sacrifice that appears on the album Moonflower? It's always been one of my favorite live tracks, even though it has a drum solo.

The thumb is his trademark - how did he come to put his hand in that position? I'm no expert, but I think he uses some weird guitar tuning in order to be able to play that way. I saw him once a few years ago at a small private performance - he did the freedom song and it was generally pretty cool.

    Thanks, Claire
Oh well, the internet told me the winner even though I've been trying to avoid knowing until I see the show, so I might as well visit this blog one last time.

    Traditional Chinese Medicine, i assume?

Yes, it's a good, catchy tune. The lyrics… not so much. The line quoted in the review ("You don't have to be beautiful, but it helps") clashes with the rest of the song, and feels snarky in an otherwise sincere song.

    Just The Way You Are
    Since I'm already posting here…

    Pictures and Saves
    Hi Claire,

I didn't realize it was that old. Keanu sure has been around a while. Even so, the trailer style is dated even for the 80's.

    River's Edge
What's the deal with that trailer? It sounds like a PSA from the 70s, not like an ad for an edgy 90s movie.

    And more
I was glad to finally see the Cage, if only because it explains that annoying "and more" line that the alien says at the end of the Menagerie, which I never understood. After he says it, they just cut back to Vina and she looks good again, so what was the "more" that the alien meant?

Good spot. An excellent, cheesy line!

As with most adaptations, it's similar to but different from the book. I think it's pretty faithful, but the scenes most people remember (clicking at the street thugs, bedroom with MacLaine, the final scene) are not in the book. The scene with MacLaine in particular cheapens the movie. Still, the movie is good fun.

    Purim
I wonder if part of the joke is that Purim is only one day, so there's no "first" day, or if the writers were just confused by the whole "Shushan Purim" thing and the fact that most Jewish holidays are more than one day.
