The only time I went to a sci-fi convention…
…was one that was just before Relics aired. Marina Sirtis was there (stunningly beautiful in real life) and a couple of producers. They showed a picture of Doohan on the recreation of the bridge as part of a "coming soon feature". The producers said that Relics was the most

I'm enjoying the hell out of rewatching this show…
…I had meant to follow along with the writeups but I'm already halfway through season one. First time I've seen it since it first aired and damn does it hold up.

I loved the show when it first aired, but my ex always had to complain about how bad it was when I watched it - until she found out that her 16 year old cousin LOVED the show. Once she heard her cousin talk about how great it was to have a three dimensional, strong female leading character on a TV show her attitude

I liked Crystal Skull. I didn't love it, but I liked it and people's reactions to it seem a little overblown to me. There were some great moments in it and it was wonderful to see Ford finally come alive again.

The biggest change for me watching this now, compared to when it first aired in 2001, is how much I like Will and Cooper's portrayal of him. Basically, when I first watched the show I thought Will was so weepy and lame and…*obvious* about being a lovesick will-settle-for-being-your-friend that I couldn't ever like him

I also didn't hate it but thought that it was…not very good. Getting rid of the writers of Legacy is a good move, but I'm not sure how this is an improvement…

I watched the first two or three eps of the first season…
…and couldn't be bothered to watch anymore. To be fair, a lot of that was probably based on all the constant references to Alias (which I'm currently rewatching due to the AV Club's writeups). I can't recall if it was the network, the showrunners, or the

Colin Baker Apologist - yes, you're thinking of the final line of the Five Doctors anniversary special. The Doctor is appointed President, and he runs into the Tardis and takes off, leaving Flavia (?) ruling in his place. Tegan or Turlough asks "You're going to go on the run from your own people in a rackety old

RockLobsters - damn, you blew my cover. I'm a rep of the only company in the world that will be able make 4K equipment and publish films, and will receive commision for everything sold to AV Club members once the tech rolls out a few years down the line… :-)

But what comes next?
A friend told me a while back that he wasn't going to get a Blu-Ray player because he'll be getting his films "on demand" or through iTunes. He posited that films on physical media and dedicated players will soon be a thing of the past.

Agreed with the good things said about MiniDiscs and how important it is to remember the context in which they came out. I almost bought one because my Discman skipped terribly, my car CD player skipped terribly, and even my friend's top-of-the-line Discman type player skipped fairly easily, although it built up a

Ah, the desperate return to old, popular characters…
…well, it worked for Stallone.

Considering that McCoy's character arc was supposed to be that the Doctor was revealed to be a God-like figure called "The Other" who was really the first Time Lord and the one who started Gallifreyan civilization…um, no thanks. The Doctor is special because he's the Doctor; you don't have to make him the God of Gods

Trilobiter - intering article on Salon; thanks.

It smells like Bigfoot's dick!

This might be a bit lengthy…
I can't remember where I read this (Alternet?) but there was a study done at a high school to help teach students about marketing and advertising. If I recall it started by a teacher listening to all of the female students complaining about how all the boys wore Axe and were always going

I just saw Where the Boys Are on TCM…
…and was quite impressed with it - very different from what I would have thought, and pretty well done (as much as the subject matter could be given the restraints of the time). I had thought I'd just watch a few minutes to check it out what it looked like but ended up watching it

Jean-Luc Lemur -
Yep, stripey shirts were a huge thing around 2000 and still are, I guess. I'll see your Hustle and raise you a Fastlane - I'm hesitant to rewatch it as I used to dress just like the Tom Cruise lookalike. Ah, youth.

The fashion and style that people are currently experiencing always seems normal to them. It's only after the fact that they can see that it looks "of a time".

To my tastes Can't Get You Out of My Head is one of the catchiest, most perfect pop songs I've ever heard. Of course, it's fun so obviously it's an assault on "art". Oh, and lots of people like it so therefore we should all hate it just to show how our tastes are superior to the stupid masses.
