I have a soft spot of Lionheart as it was the first "proper" Van Damme film I saw. A friend insisted I see Nowhere to Run (I had to look up the title on IMDB) at the dollar theatre, but he was really disappointed that it wasn't a "real" Van Damme film because there wasn't enough martial arts in it. I thought that Van

Timecop shouldn't classify as a cult film as it was a genuine box-office success when it came out. I don't know off the top of my head how much it made, but it debuted at number one. Some people in the press thought it was Van Damme's breakthrough film that would elevate him to being a mainstream action star.

I remember being surprised that there was such an obvious Prisoner rip-off in the form of the Colony…but it did lead to a conversation with some guys at the dollar theatre we saw it at about The Prisoner. I hope that I convinced a couple of guys to check it out, but they seemed the type to turn it off as soon as they

Justification for the remake
Well, justification is a bit too strong of a word I guess…but here are two things I remembered.

I try to be good about spoilers, even with classic films. I live in an artsy neighborhood and there's a rep house theatre at the end of my street. I saw Psycho there a couple of years ago and there were two 18 year olds sitting in front of me. They didn't jump at the shower scene, but you could see them begin to tense

Turl wins the internet.

I heard terrible things about CSI: Miami but once I watched it (in reruns) it's very obviously in on the joke. I found it quite funny and engaging on its own terms, although it's apparently toned down the crazy in the last couple of years.

Did any other decade feature so many blatant rip-offs of movies?
Automan inspired by Tron, Tales of the Gold Monkey and Bring 'Em Back Alive trying to capture the magic of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Airwolf trying and succeeding to be a meaner Blue Thunder (which had its own TV version of the film).

I did wonder for a moment if he really was going to regenerate and then I thought "Nah, but then how are they going to get out of this?". The resolution surprised me.

The BBC version (not BBC America; real BBC) did not have it. I think it was done as a sop to first-time American viewers checking out the show after all the ads on the AV Club…

Based on the photo…
Shu Qi is going to be covered up in a lot of period clothes. Pass.

You reach an age where life starts taking instead of giving…
This is the first time that I remember feeling gutted about a celebrity passing. Sladen brought so much personality to the role that the show was almost as much about her as it was about Tom Baker's Doctor when I first started watching it. And what a

I was disappointed taht you called them reality shows…
I've only seen a little of "reality" TV over the years but the one constant (in my opinion) is how heavily scripted it is. I always notice a shift from when people are talking in a rather casual, realistic way to when it becomes a little stiff and awkward - which

Mizerock - pretty hard to miss American Maid when you had Liz Vassey as a similar character…not knocking American Maid, just extolling the virtues of Liz Vassey.

Statements. I can't even blame the T key for being sticky as it worked earlier in the word…if only my typing fingers had tiger blood coursing through them…

I love how they say…
"Those staements are false". I wish for once they'd just say "He's lying."

Some newspaper posted pictures of Craig and Brosnan side by side when Craig's casting was first announced and I'll admit that I thought "Him? HIM?" (to be fair, they used the worst picture of Craig that I've ever seen). But after seeing Casino Royale I totally agreed with what one critic said - for the first time

It's funny, the same thing happened to someone I know. For the last few years whenever she heard about Paltrow she thought of GOOP, which made her hate/make fun of Paltrow. Then she saw her on Glee and she said "You know, now I remember why she was so big 10 years ago." Setting aside all of her non-acting projects I

At the end of the clip with Lance…
…there's a second or two of electronic "music". Is that from SCTV or from PBS in the 70's? I'm leaning towards SCTV.
