I think Boyd dies trying to save Ava. I think he already knows she's informing on him, trying to keep her close to keep an eye on her. Also I believe he truly loves her in spite of his distrust. She will probably die, too.

Sadly, I don't think the show can avoid deaths of both Ava and Boyd. I love both characters so much, I wish I could imagine a different ending.
