I think so! It definitely supports the theories that Pearls are some sort of lower Gem class. Really excited to see where they'll go with this in the future.

Also, Peridot's recurring villain status is so fun. It lets the Crystal Gems fight and react to a character who can actually respond, and it gives them a threat with real stakes beyond the limited damage the corrupted gems cause. I like how the Crewniverse have developed Peridot's character, making her smart and

Wow, what a wonderful way to wrap up Garnet and Pearl’s
fight! We got a lot of insight into how Pearls view themselves as a class of
Gem, and how that informed her actions in Cry for Help (and her character in
general). And of course Garnet helped mend bridges by sharing her flaws, once
Pearl finally opened up about her

Good point. He has spent a lot more time with four-armed fusions, though. So maybe that's why?

Yeah, that's a weird timing thing that doesn't seem to work out. Pearl has talked about seeing humans as hunter-gatherers, suggesting the Gems were on Earth early enough to see that part of human history. But when she made holo-Rose at the end of Rose's Scabbard, she was kneeling the way a knight would (suggesting

Yeah, I think it's the Temple Fusion too. If Steven helped design the prop, the most arms he's seen a fusion have is four, so maybe that's where that came from. Assuming Pearl didn't give directions for how many arms the fusion should have.

The conversation between Steven and Pearl was an effective, if brief, way to tie the episode into the Sardonyx arc. As usual, Steven provided support for Pearl, which seems to have helped distract her from her sadness by giving her a chance to be motherly again with the play rewrites and loudly supporting Steven at

Yeah, based on all previous indications, the war ended thousands of years ago. The CG's warning to William Dewey was probably about the remaining corrupted gems.

This was a really fun episode! After the emotional intensity of the last few, I thought it was a nice way for the writers to give us a bit of a break while providing some insight into the history of Beach City.

I can definitely imagine how Vidalia and Amethyst might not have seen each other for years - probably at least since Steven was born. Amethyst probably had to take a bigger part in Crystal Gem missions after Rose was gone, and Vidalia was kept busy raising first one, then two kids. Plus, the Beach City residents

Wow, I was not expecting the Vidalia-Amethyst friendship, but Katie Mitroff and Lamar Abrams did an amazing job making it really feel like two old friends reuniting after a while apart.

Loved the callback to Cat Fingers when Steven says the rollers don't feel good on his fur!

Yeah, plus I can see how she might be able to sink herself to the bottom of the ocean to look for Malachite, given how Ruby walked at the bottom of the pool in this episode.

Oh right, with jump-starting Greg's car for example. I forgot about that, thanks. It's not exactly a combination of ice and fire/heat, though, which might be expected given the previous pattern of combining weapons on the show. Then again, Malachite just directly inherited Lapis's water abilities, so who's to say.

It's interesting that Ruby and Sapphire each have elemental powers, but we've never seen Garnet use either fire or ice (or floating, for that matter). I wonder if Sapphire has a separate weapon, or if she has a glove similar to Ruby's.

Yes, I think so.

The road trip conceit was a great way to isolate Garnet from the rest of the Crystal Gems while maintaining Steven's perspective. Plus it led to some great humor - I thought Sapphire's predictions ("Such is fate", "He won't like the squares") were very funny. I agree that Steven's question at the end about whether it

I agree - Garnet is stronger than Pearl and Amethyst both physically and emotionally, so they both feel better when they fuse with her than when they fuse with each other. As seen in Giant Woman and The Return, Opal is not a very stable fusion, since she's easily disrupted by surprises or unexpected events.

Just think of all the pranks she could pull!
