Russell Crowe definitely had a face the entire time that screamed "Please don't fuck up this note please don't fuck up this note please don't fuck up this note." Whenever a Broadway adaptation comes out, the theater/voice nuts go psycho but in this case it was pretty warranted.

It's actually one of the problems I have with this pretty awesome movie. Schultz isn't really a character with an inner life, just a quirky, lovable force of nature here to free Django and teach him everything he needs to know.

It's an intensely complicated issue, and rather than pretend to have the solution like these shitty feel-good race relations movies, Tarantino heads in the exact opposite directions with a cartoonishly violent revenge fantasy and asks us to accept it at face value. Hilarious but went on an extra beat.

"My Heart Will Go On" is a good, broad, safe choice. Hard to argue with, except if you're grading on a rubric of sheer talent - in which case, objectively, Celine Dion is a fantastically talented singer who is singing a really cheesy, obnoxious ballad (see: Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston).

When the Stoner and the Virgin hit the button (and everything immediately following it) - "Cabin in the Woods"
Refrigerator bomb - "The Raid: Redemption"
Silva interrogates Bond - "Skyfall"
Infiltrating Abottabad - "Zero Dark Thirty"
Almost anything in Neo-Seoul - "Cloud Atlas"
The first ten minutes of "Jack Reacher"

I feel that way about We Need to Talk About Kevin. I'm tempted to just call it as the worst movie of 2013 as well.

I was blown away that the AV Club made a post about that MTV video. I didn't consider it a viral video until I saw it here. But I'm glad you like "Grown Men Are Talking," as that's pretty much the only longer-form 5sf sketch I've written.

"Detention" excruciating. But my favorite movie of the year so far is Cabin in the Woods, which is also a heady, satirical genre exercise - so if you hated that one, then we're just on different sides of the same coin.

Haven't seen Red Dawn, but yes I imagine it has the same why-am-I-watching-this-even-on-a-long-plane-ride-to-London quality as Battleship. I could absolutely see The Dictator being funny if I was high (and I hate whipping out that overused insult, but in this case I think it's true), however it just died in my
