I'm glad I stuck with it past the pilot. Miller got plenty of good material, and most of the interpersonal disjunction could be explained away by his character (though House's pilot set him up much better as a character with real connections in spite of his personality.) Watson, on the other hand, was extremely

It was pretty blatant. Granted, Olivia got a few good shots in, but the writers are so clearly on the side of the magical negro that it barely mattered.

The far superior road to travel would have been to Fringe up a way to let Peter keep his feelings-juices and give a nod to Star Trek's pilot episode; a powerful emotion can be a wild card due to its sheer strength. The Observers shouldn't be able to predict the consequences of chemical activity that can cause people

Tyler's step-up was completely motivated by the dead-weight exposition and unsubtle push provided by Phoebe Tonkin's character. He's no more an alpha than I'm a wizard. He has no long-term plan, and a long-term plan is a much more important signifier of leadership right now than any macho posturing, heart-grabbing

I think this is a good example of when "real insane" - the kind that's sad and scary but not really interesting, and whose sufferers aren't all Beautiful Minds or Mad Hatters - must give way to "TV insane" for the sake of entertainment. You could certainly make the argument that the actor is trying to portray some

Not a bad episode, and the guest stars were solid, but I didn't really see any worthwhile development for Benny, which was disappointing because he's been one of the most interesting characters this season. Likewise for Dean. This was wheel-spinning in terms of his new outlook.

This episode escalated quickly and I'm not sure I cared for it. Scenes and transitions that might have rung true over the course of 5-10 episodes instead rang false because they were crammed into 40 minutes of television.

For me, the best part of the timeline was "and, yet again, there is video."

The fact that it was scripted and committed to film made it even better.

Dave is a tough character, period. He's a douche-canoe, and there's only so much lampshading you can do vis-a-vis douche-canoery. The only times I find him marginally tolerable are when he's making fun of Alex being a moron, or during the pilot when he was being spiteful due to a legitimate grievance.
