My parents kind of had one.  They had my name all picked out, expecting a boy.  But when my sister was born first, they just picked a name that sort of rhymed with mine.

All right, be straight with me.  Week after week, I check what the AV Club rated shows that came out over the weekend, and I'm seeing consistent As with it.  Has it really gotten that good?  Could I skip over the first season and just watch this one without missing anything?  What would you recommend…

Thanks for saying that.  It was a long time ago (15 years, actually), so the hurt has faded, but both my friend and his death had such a profound effect on my life.  One part: he, strangely, never let me do drugs at all when we were kids.
