I think that "Walking Dead" suffers from the same problem that "Dexter" does, in that the premise so greatly outweighs the standard components that they tend to drag in comparison.  Which is not to say that, without the premise, those two shows would suddenly be gold; it's just that their mediocrity stands out so much
