I really need to spend some more time with Varda's works, everything I've seen of hers has been really impressive.

Model Shop, like many of Demy's films, is such a fantastical mesh of colors and sounds that it sometimes seems like a weird half-remembered dream. But I think what really sells Demy's films for me is his connection to human emotion - whether he's shooting a closeup or an arty wide shot, he's always focused on the

He says on one of the commentaries that his Nixon started out as a mockery of Anthony Hopkins' Nixon, who apparently always sounded like he was about to turn into a werewolf.

I saw a comment or two of yours! My comments aren't getting approved, but that's obviously because mine are all terrible.

The Last Action Hero spoofed The Seventh Seal, if I recall correctly. Honestly, that whole movie is somewhat of a fever dream.

Law and Order's first eight seasons are consistently good, and occasional episodes veer into excellent territory. And of course, Homicide: Life on the Streets was an absolutely fantastic procedural.

There's a Buzz Beer in Ontario that's made from hemp. It's…not very good.

TWOP used to be absolutely hilarious. I read their Buffy, West Wing and Twin Peaks reviews and laughed and laughed. Or maybe they weren't funny then and I had terrible taste, but I'll always remember them fondly.

And the writing. And Tony Rosato.

I know most people think of training montages from cheesy 80s movies, but for me montages are the domain of TV producers - think of those episode-ending montages from Homicide, season-ending montages in The Wire or…those ones in Boardwalk Empire.

It really is. The spin-off TV show, which was a staple of Canadian after-school TV long after its relevance had faded, was also quite funny. I think. I was pretty young.

Robin Duke teaches at the Second City in Toronto right now as well, if memory serves me correctly. Hilarious woman, she was completely underused on SNL.

Ri-yut!

That one joke essentially is the basis for every "Get Me Hennimore!' sketch in That Mitchell and Webb look.

Where Terriers runs free.

A cheerful counterpoint: I loved Cosmopolis! It really spoke to me as a bored, sexually frustrated millionaire.

It's been a rough week (boyfriend offered a job in NYC, friend passed away suddenly and shockingly), but at least I get to be surrounded by awesome friends and family for this holiday season.
