I'm actually really surprised that Silence of the Lambs was left off, same with Jackie Brown. But the list is pretty solid otherwise, even if I don't adore Dazed and Confused in the way that most people do. Nice list AV Club, good summary of the 90s.

Merchant Ivory can be a bit of a punchline, so I was shocked to find how not-boring those two films are. Oddly riveting.

Holy shit, "The Spanish Prisoner". Mamet spends most of the movie flexing his plotting muscles, it's a really incredibly written film.

The Commitments is oddly heartwarming. Plus: young Glen Hansard! Colm Meany!

I disagree, I think Pam Grier is note-perfect in the role. She holds her own beautifully against Forster and Jackson (and Fonda, why not).

I know everyone's ranted and raved about their omissions, but for a "Makes sense why it's not on the list, but it's still an amazing film": Last Night, by Don McKellar. Came up a lot in this last year for having its plot ripped off by that Seeking a Friend for the End of the World movie, but it stands on its own as a
