Agreed. Sure, nothing touches The Downward Spiral, but I've liked With Teeth, Year Zero, The Slip, and Ghosts, as well as his two soundtracks. Interesting music made by a guy who is in my age bracket, who I kind grew up with - I loved the raging stuff when I was a teen, but it just ain't me so much anymore. Looking…

If you have never seen The Grapes of Wrath, see it. It still looks beautiful, in stark black and white, and it's theme, sadly, still resonates today: the rich get richer …

Am I wrong, or does Collateral seem to get a bit forgotten from the Mann canon (the Mann-on)? I think that movie is tense throughout, Tom Cruise seems genuinely dangerous, and the train just build suspense. It's not Heat, but Collateral is damn good, in my opinion.

Yeah - I always want him to be a good guy who "gets it" in the Hanksian/Hammish tradition, but he does come off very prickly in most interviews on TV or in print. Guy hasn't made a very good movie in a while, either, in my opinion, so he kinda needs to get off of his high horse.

I'm surprised there's not more Ryan Adams stories here …

25th Hour is one of my favorite movies. It works because post-9/11 is the mood and tone of the film, and not the main plot point, in my opinion. It certainly avoids the maudlin-ness that other 9/11 films (WTC and Extremely Loud come to mind) …

I'm reading "Ladies and Gentlemen, the Bronx is Burning" right now - a great book about all of the craziness that engulfed NYC and the boroughs during 1977. If you liked Summer of Sam, check out this book … and not the shitty ESPN miniseries of the same name.

Sadly, "Chris," Brown," "reunited," "with" and "Rihanna" all seem to go together. How women buy his records astounds me almost as much as how women vote Republican …

Yeah - not a huge music-bio fan, but that book was funny, compelling, interesting, and surprisingly song-and-guitar-craft orientated. I thought it was terrific.
