I wish I could have sat in the meeting when someone said, "Y'know what I'm looking for? A more 'Joe Pesci in Lethal Weapon 2 by way of late-period Robin Williams with an alien twist' feeling. Who can we get to deliver that?"

Of course, this is not to say that Carson did not have his own demons to deal with …

Wow, that Warren Zevon episode was beautiful. Great TV.

That's so what I thought while watching this - that Carson just made it seem to effortless. Oddly, the only guy on TV today that reminds me of Carson is Ferguson, in that he exudes that same sort of effortless mix of silly yet cool, and I think TV Club's recent review of his week of shows in Scotland sort of captured

Just look at those Corleone boys (And Tom) - Duvall and Caan still make interesting choices (well except for Vegas); Pacino and DeNiro are grotesque parodies of their former glories; and John Cazale was in five of the greatest American movies of the 70s, and then died. Which direction would he have gone, had he lived?

The performance in the film of that song absolves Eugene Levy from the dozens of awful films that he appears in yearly. God, I love that song …
