KK was in this '80s tv miniseries about a Russian invasion of America. I remember reading a review about it that said he shuffled through the role like a man with a crippling hangover. I never saw it, but the phrase "crippling hangover" is still (worryingly) a part of my lexicon…..

Amazingly, Roth and Hagard did a bizarre tour together playing VH songs, see this funny article on Salon, and read about a fat bellied Hagar catching a buzz, and Roth, unsurprisingly, stealing the show.

I enjoy reading Ian McEwan. Then again, we've never met.

I really liked Saturday the first time I read it and remember certain scenes as being great—the scene where the protagonist is is confronted by hoods after a minor car crash; the ensuing squash game, and the brain surgery—but the second time I picked it up I found the guitar playing son and artist daughter irritating.

For pointing out why this scene is so compelling and then explaining how it was done. The link to the FX page has a pretty amazing photo of the car showing where the driver had to sit. I don't think it would have been nearly as effective shot conventionally. I'm all for directors spending the money
