The only thing I didn't quite understand in the pilot was the claim negotiation with Brom Garrett. It took me a couple of re-watches to understand how exactly Swearengen played him.

Yeah maybe I'd have to watch it again, too. Either way, I think Mandaliet is right. He knew the guy was scared shitless so it probably wouldn't matter too much anyway. After all, it's not like he was really going to go through with it.

Obviously, I know that. He was very convincing is basically what I was getting at.

Art is such a badass. At one point I actually thought he was gonna go through with shooting that guy and set it up to look like the guy shot first. (although I don't know why he shot the wall behind the guy. Shouldn't he have shot the wall behind him? Or is there something I'm missing there?)
