Don Cavalli's swamp rock classic Cryland blew me away so when I heard he was playing in London I got tickets without caring who he was going to be supporting. Unfortunately when I turned up he was a no show so I had to make do with the not so good swamp rock of Dan Auerbach who I'm sure was perfectly fine but wasn't

Silverfish were so much fun live.

I went to see it when it came out at my local cinema and everybody was up in the aisles doing the skinhead moonstomp, never seen a whole audience (or anybody for that matter) dancing at a film screening before or since.

The new Jane Smiley~Some Luck. She's such an amazing writer, so original but not at all showy. Looking forward to the next two installments already.

Soul music fans of a certain age (my age) would be amazed that Frankie Beverly and Maze's Joy And Pain didn't make the list. So beautiful.

Such a great live band!

That Rome gig is in a class of its own~totally fantastic also dark,itchy and funky (like a yeast infection). There's loads of free downloads out there of the Montreux show and it's well worth picking up.

I've seen them a few times and they were always pretty good and my sister was at the infamous New York gig that ended up with Smith getting arrested. Might see them again this summer at The Green Man Festival. My favourite Fall live moment was at WOMAD the world music festival when Smith introduced the band thus;

The acoustic version that I got as a free 7" with The Good Son album is my favourite~such an amazing song.

I love Van Morrison's Caravan but I have a special place in my heart for his performance of it in The Band's movie The Last Waltz. If I remember the story Van had second and third thoughts about his outfit (entirely understandable because he looks like a roly poly purple Elvis) but didn't have time to get changed.

I would've gone for Slippery People from Stop Making Sense but the one song that was most improved in the live setting in my opinion was My Big Hands (Fall Through The Cracks) from David Byrne's The Catherine Wheel album. The version that Talking Heads do in their Live At Montreux 1982 show is absolutely amazing and

Agreed about Gruff's solo stuff, but I'm not so sure about another SFA album.

I have to totally disagree with this review because I really didn't know anything about Houellebecq when I saw this and I thought it was one of the funniest films that I've seen in a long time and a lot of that was down to the amazing performances of the supporting cast.

I think she's an amazing vocalist and Marble Index is an incredible album and most people I know think the same but, yeah, I know the kind of people you're talking about and they're usually full of it.

Great soundtrack from Donald Byrd and The Blackbyrds too. I know somebody with two thumbs who has it on vinyl-THIS GUY!!!
