Does the AV Club not know what the word roasted means? You can’t just modify it with gently and expect it to retain any of the semblance of its original meaning. There was no roasting of anyone in this video.

I think it depends on context. When Nietzsche was calling Socrates ugly, I was ok with it. I don’t know how that applies to this situation, but it’s always a great time to bring up absurdities in philosophy.

Strange. I also thought he was a pretentious ass, but not for the proud comment. I thought that was spot on. We don’t spend enough time looking at the semantics of our word choices. I thought his analysis of the word in the context was well placed. The rest of the shit he had to say though...that I can do without.

To some extent yes and to some extent no. I’d say preferences are subject, but quality within a specific preference can be evaluated more objectively. For example, two people may have different music tastes, but it’s usually difficult to find two people who like the same things that evaluate those things at vastly diff…

There’s nothing wrong with liking BBT, but it’s not well written. And likewise for RPO. They can be fun, certainly, if they happen to hit your particular interests, but they aren’t good, as it were.

Wasn’t the book just a slightly better written Big Bang Theory? It was just full of references without them actually being used in any kind of interesting way. Once you establish the virtual reality aspect of it, the rest of it was just background noise. 

Yup. That book is terrible.

Haven’t seen Black Panther yet, and Thor: Dark World does indeed suck, but I will always be here to defend Iron Man 2. If you remove Black Widow from that film it is one of the better Marvel films. Scarlett Johansson really sucked in that one, but everyone else was great.

I was really into Anberlin in high school. I saw them live once for their farewell tour, and it was a really fun show. It helped that I knew 95% of the lyrics to every song they played.

Logan was a better film than TLJ though. I also think the reaction to TLJ is absurd, but the comparison to Logan isn’t favorable to TLJ. Logan is a more streamlined film that doesn’t lose its focus.

This is true, but most of that was Leia and Poe focused, not Holdo focused. That stuff mostly worked, although I thought the bomber sequence was a bit more ambiguous than most people here seem too. Trading a small bomber fleet for a super star destroyer, or whatever the hell that ship was, doesn’t necessarily seem…
