Last night was the last straw for me with Supergirl. Not even Chris Wood's and Melissa Benoist's amazing chemistry could prevent me from removing my season pass from my DVR. I can't get over the catastrophically bad writing that is absolutely slathered in deus ex machinas and plot holes, including Mon-El's and J'onn's

Given the current political climate, the only parallel I can make with Tetsuo's transformation into Flesh Blob is Donald Trump becoming president.

Yes, for many, many different reasons. I try to stay out of musical arguments (and music discussions in general because they inevitably turn into arguments) but the only way Achtung Baby "defines" U2 is if your definition is that they have become a pale, preening, somewhat cynical shadow of what they used to be.

No. No, there will never be a time when Scientology seems sensible or self-consistent.

Nimoy directed III and IV; I think the reason why the tonal similarities for II and III are there is because of James Horner's scores for those movies. The score for IV is pretty jarring and I've never been a fan.

As a former truly die-hard Trekkie (I was around before everyone got pissy and wanted to be called "Trekkers"), I have to wonder about my inherent biases when I say that the reason a Star Trek TV show is probably harder than it should be in this day and age is because of the new movies.

Good lord. I may actually have to watch (and, thus, pay for) this series now. Michelle Yeoh has been my spirit mother ever since Crouching Tiger….

Right?? I was mesmerized.

You can't pretend to be an advocate for "real people" if you're counting coup against people by misrepresenting their arguments. That makes you a troll, not anyone's champion.

Thank you for that instructive display of logical fallacy.

You didn't make a point. I didn't vote for Trump, nor am I uptight about anyone's gender identities. Which is pretty obvious from my post, so maybe the point you made is about your lack of reading comprehension.

Thanks for that truly worthwhile piece of reductive response; it illustrates perfectly my entire line of reasoning.

This is a great post and a good alternate read of the situation.

No, but many, many people voted Republican because they saw Democrats as being brutally oversensitive to minutiae, as well as being dismissive and haughty to people who aren't fully indoctrinated or briefed about what's "correct."

Amazingly, yes. What started out as a lazy verbal construct has turned into a "safe space" for people struggling to catch up with the constantly shifting and growing demands of gender politics.

Don't you think that's a case of justifying abuse in the pursuit of protesting abuse? I mean, let's be fair - it's pretty hypocritical to demand fairness and equanimity from people but still reserve the right to abuse potential allies as a test of their fortitude.

Again, though, the joke is not about the GENDERS. It's about the attitude towards them and people who accidentally get them wrong, and how they are eviscerated for it. The fact that so many people are not getting it or are outraged by it simply strengthens the joke's point, IMO.

I try and skip all that by calling someone a "person." "They" is a great catch-all and I've run into very little opposition. If someone cares enough about their preferred pronoun and they let me know what it is, I'll use it.

I don't agree. I think that the "That's why Trump won" is being used to criticize the most tone-deaf parts of the Democratic/liberal establishment.
