That could be a true original. I've never been able to figure out an inspiration for it.

Oh yeah, it's definitely not a direct parody, and that wasn't meant to be a criticism anyway. It's just closer to one song than some of the other style parodies are. In my opinion at least.

"Mission Statement" is amazing. An instant classic. I love it when he takes an artist and then writes a song in their style that is lyrically the total antithesis of that artist. This one does that beautifully, but I'd put "Gonna Buy Me A Condo", "Dog Eat Dog", and "Traffic Jam" in that same category. Love all of them.

Oh interesting. Yeah, I kinda hear that. I never really heard the Weezer sound there, but if he was going for more recent Weezer, then I wouldn't have recognized it anyway. They fell off my radar a little bit.

Albuquerque is a style parody of The Rugburns, specifically "Dick's Automotive", of which it is almost a direct parody. Jackson Park Express is a style parody of Cat Stevens. There are actually very few of his original songs that aren't style parodies of someone, though sometimes those people are quite obscure.

This Year's Model Elvis Costello, to be specific. The bass line sells it.

It might, in fact, be his greatest song. And I feel like I read somewhere that it's meant to be a Weezer style parody, but I don't know if that's true.

Yes.

So, not to be a Beach Boys or Weird Al pedant, but I'm about to be. Pancreas is actually a style parody of the SMiLE album that was supposed to be the Beach Boys' follow up to Pet Sounds in the late 60s. For myriad reasons, it did not happen then, but was finally finished by Brian Wilson and his new band in 2004. So

Thomas was the doubter, not Peter.

He's been known to launch into "Radio Radio" in concert if the show gets messed up somehow. I've never seen it happen, but I've heard tell.

"Sal Mineo for Viceroy!"

Not as strong surely, but You Don't Love Me Yet & Chronic City were still enjoyable. I haven't read Dissident's Garden yet.

The most jarring thing in the unedited Shawshank is the warden's speech to Andy in the hole. "You'll feel like you've been fucked by a freight train". Whoa! That line is decidedly not in the TNT version.

Not true! Religion teacher at a Catholic school here, and one does not need to be Catholic in order to be sainted. If you did, 100% of our earliest saints would be ineligible as they were very, very Jewish.
