I will say having watched the movie with my parents who've never seen VM before (but are big fans of murder mystery), they both thought it was a very good film. I thought it was a good episode of the show (a great episode of series three) and was just happy because Martin Starr got something to do.

So can anyone tell me, as someone completely unfamiliar with Assayas' work, will this just baffle me with odd artsy callbacks or is it a good film if you don't know the director?

My only concern is that at 98 minutes, this could really condensed. Great cast though.
