Mixes
Thanks for the DJ mix tips! I was already hip to the Shed. It kills. Shed's the best.
Will definitely check out some of the others.

It's taken you until now to recognize that?

Damn, how many times must I read the news this week and think 'wow, i can never move back home.' I'm trying to love you, America. Why are you making it so fucking difficult?

Well, it wouldn't occur to me to use 'epic' as a descriptor (though the AV reviewer does). What appeals so much to me about the record is its small scale. It doesn't over reach, doesn't sound desperate in a pursuit of grand. They are simply uncluttered, sexy songs. I dig it.

It's a great record!

Totally worth seeing. Not the loudest band in the world, but maybe my current favorite live band. Don't be late—their shows tend to be short.

90s wishes fulfilled in the 00s
Two events in the 2000s that my 90s self would have appreciated even more (but were nevertheless rad):
1. Meeting and hanging out with Black Francis. Happened thanks to my friend's random acquaintance with a member of his backing band on a solo tour. Black Francis pouring me a cup of

I was skeptical going in, but was pretty much won over by the end of Coochie. And not disappointed by what followed. Glad to see that this group of talented folks made what was a seemingly unneeded project into a fun record. Yay for pleasant surprises!

Ha ha—Thanks for that list Sunglasses. I'd never read that pathetic review of NYC Ghosts & Flowers. That album is definitely not in my, oh, top 10 SY records, but it is way better than that jackass rated it. The review sounds like it was written by someone who tried to 'make it' in NYC and had to move back to his

The Far Side is (usually) neither a comic strip nor comics. It's (typically) a single panel.

Damn missed a great development of the conversation while I was too busy to check out this page (sometimes I miss having a job with an office and a computer, but not often…)
Peachfuzz seems to have written most of what I might have said in defense of KE. I will add that Dan Zettwoch's contributions were great and

I gotta disagree. I just read Asterios Polyp last week and was really impressed. I'm a longtime fan of Mazzucchelli (Rubber Blanket was a fave, and of course his art on Batman) and I was very happy to see him return with such an accomplished book. I can see the argument that it was overcomposed or 'over-determined'

Great list. Most of the comics y'all review don;t really interest me, but it seems that the ones that stick with the AV Team are many of the same ones that I cherish.
I do think that Kramer's Ergot deserves a mention. Nothing was as exciting to me this decade as those anthologies. They were the perfect antidote to all

I might have been to dismissive…especially since I don't have the album available to relisten to right now (so much of my music is not anywhere near me). And a question…is Bulletproof Wallets the album that had so many alternate versions/unreleased tracks or was that Pretty Toney? Because those uncleared/abandoned

@idiotking: if you live in Berlin the shine wears off fast from most of the cheap eateries. There are some solid places, but most Imbisses are really disgusting, trust me.

Excuse me, but we call them McCafe now in fancy Europe. Even the one in my pretty rundown neighborhood got a modest makeover and upgrade the 'cafe' status. Pretty lame.

Ugh…Refused were insufferably pretentious and At the Drive-In always sucked…they sucked back then, and looking back, they still suck. They were better than Mars Volta, I'll give 'em that.

Another shout out for The Knife. Hell, Fever Ray would probably make my decade best list as well. I guess I like the wacked out ,witchy stuff. What's up AV Club?
Speaking of witchy, good to see someone give Liars some love. They are a treasure.
Bullet Proof Wallets is clearly a 2nd tier Ghostface album, but I do

I just read VALIS a few months ago, after having read around 10 novels by Dick over the years. It is certainly not easy going. It is also pretty depressing. If you're into PKD it is essential, but it is probably best read after being familiar with Dick's works and biography. And you should probably know who the

Can't believe AVC missed the chance to ask what exactly it was that they can't go for…I've always wondered.
