From what I know in passing about witchcraft (and something even a basic
round of research should uncover), balance of power and a kind of karma
governs magic and its casting. Basically, you get back what you put
out. For example, the negative energy used by Madison to flip a bus and
kill people would come back to

I loved the bit in Season 1 where Kenny first sees Schaeffer BMW. The intro to 'More than a Feeling' builds up, and is seamlessly replaced by a Muzak version when Kenny enters the dealership.

His Fairtrade candle summary was another good one.

I hated the plantation episode. Way too outlandish with none of the dark emotional streak this show balances so well (perfect example: that final shot last week of Kenny on the jet pack)

Yeah, we know…

Ooh, politics!

The 300-style bloodshed settles down as the show finds the best way to use it. It's still there - it just becomes more stylised to Spartacus rather than feeling like a rip-off. Keep with it and enjoy!

Gotta love Evan Peters' greaser getting nito the groove as well. Ah, the whole thing is just brilliant.

Yeah, it looked like they went soft-focus-Vaseline crazy for about half the shots…

You know, @avclub-3db41011acc2d229176bf6a92202728d:disqus , for a long time I've presumed your profile pic was a bald guy reflected in a spoon and displayed at the wrong resolution. Maybe with some crappy photoshopping involved (hence the pointy head).

He's also done a Radio 4 series called I, Regress which is odd but often very funny (though sadly not available to listen again to by conventional means).

Like the Aceveda encounter from The Shield! They loved using that in the "previously on…"

Also on board with the Agron appreciation show. I really liked how it was made known that while he didn't agree with Spartacus on many occasions, he had bitten his tongue and followed command. Very subtle character growth from someone that started off as a foolhardy hothead.

Anyone else expecting a Bar-Kays cover?

I have to say, these analyses are much better than whatever beat poetry writeups Brandon Nowalk was doing for the main feature above.

Hey, Sentient Beard, surely in honour of this thread you should change your username to Sentient Merkin?

Shinny? I didn't know that looking like part of a foot meant you were pregnant.

For goodness sake - three episodes of not very excellent TV are worth getting through for the 30 (ish) episodes of downright fantastic TV that Spartacus has to offer. Do yourself a favour and start from the beginning.

My flatmate interrupted me during the scene where Gannicus was just about to get on the horses and I was VERY pissy towards him, especially as I believed Gannicus could die at any point during this episode.
