Anytime someone in a romantic plot makes a gesture that obviously involved a huge upfront cash investment right before the couple breaks up. Like food left uneaten, unused plane tickets and other gifts that can't be returned make me really anxious, doubly so if the party who bought it shouldn't be able to afford it.

There was one POV shot that looked up through a skillet on which Jesse was frying eggs, and my reaction was, "Now that is a bridge too far." And then it flipped to a shot behind his head, and the skillet was actually transparent, and I thought, "Ok, well played."

@avclub-aa3f9a1b51634e8f4c8eb2cbaffaf3c3:disqus  This isn't meant as snark, but can you point me toward a fantasy franchise where the rules of magical powers AREN'T pretty much made up as the narrative progresses or at least kept somewhat vague so that the writer doesn't paint him/herself into a corner? I agree that
