I just feel the need to point out that Mako's scarf = Katara's necklace. They're totems of a lost childhood, emblematic of each character's quasi-parental role within the group. I'm not sure why the one offends you while the other doesn't, unless you are referring to the insane cult following that seems to have

I'm pretty sure some people already ship that.

@avclub-e19801f9caf39bff8afc5e4548f2942d:disqus That's also true. I guess I should have added, "when executed well." See: every Joss Whedon show, Elaine Ripley, etc.

It's also a way to have action scenes outside of the main plot arc. Having Korra fight Equalists every single episode could start to feel old. The Gaang encountered all manner of fleeting obstacles in their village-of-the-week adventures. Having a secondary antagonist also helps keep things from getting stale, and

The grading on this site always comes with giant caveats and reflects the reviewer's subjective experience. I personally thought last week's episode was the amazingly well-crafted, easily the best of the entire franchise, but I understand that some had issues with pacing and the tonal shifts between Korra and Mako's

And @The_Tuna:disqus : to be followed up by another crushing defeat in the middle of Season 3.

@avclub-b2c4b2c51fe41bc50bf423450c6e09f0:disqus I'm with you there, and not just because I'm impatient. I'm wondering if the pacing issues will feel less problematic when watching LoK all in one hit. That's how I watched Season One of GoT, and then I went back and read reviews and saw people complaining about "pacing"

It's not supposed to be for A:TLA's target demographic; it's supposed to be for it's original audience, which is 7 years older than when A:TLA first started airing.

I can't help but feel like you and I were watching completely different shows when it comes to A:TLA. By the END of the series, all the characters are unquestionably kick-ass, but during the first half of Book One:

So what you're saying is…Korra's going to sleep with Tahno.

I have a feeling that "you're a bad idea" will replace "you smell, and I hate you for all time" as the thing my husband and an shout at each other in mock anger.

@PvtWangFire

See, I was completely sympathetic to his concern about dating a teammate, which legitimately applies to both of them. Granted, his motives aren't pure, but I thought he was being pragmatic rather than passive aggressive.

Exactly @avclub-39687e7d1c92246d75a913df025e3792:disqus . That was my point, expressed with less economy. No one gets out clean here, and that's important and refreshing from a character development perspective.

MAJOR SPOILERS

I'm so glad to know that my preferred portmanteau's are canon.

Tahno is amaaaaaaazing.

To be fair, she kissed him first. He just didn't pull away.

Oh, I don't think he's an idiot for choosing Asami. But he doesn't handle the situation with Korra and Bolin terribly. First, he's dishonest about his feelings to both of them. Then he confronts Korra about her "date" with Bolin with a mixed agenda. Then, he's honest in pretty much the worst possible way, and that
