I just caught me a goddamn plagiarist. Does medieval rat torture seem like a proportionate response?
I seemed to remember that being the case, but I didn't want to risk looking like an idiot.
Am I the only one who doesn't give a fuck about the Reeds? Maybe it's because I'm only halfway through Book 3? (I'm in end-of-semester grading Hell…it's slow going).
They haven't delved into it yet, but there are explicit rules for how the shadow babies work. And while it is sort of a deus ex machina (though I hate when that term is thrown around as if it's a critique in and of itself), it makes sense given what's going on with Stannis's character. He's a straight-laced pragmatist…
There was a shirtless Gendry, dripping with sweat.
"Tell Bronn to kill you if anything happens to me."
Plus, she's actually eye to eye with him while he's seated.
In response to David up there in the review, yes, Renly's death really is that out-of-nowhere in the book. I gasped audibly when I read it.
I sincerely appreciated shirtless, sweaty Gendry. I would like to see more of that. HBO, please hire a CEO of Beefcake post haste.
I actually liked that too. I mean there are two things that have to really register in that whole chain of events: 1) Renly's death, and 2) Something is very seriously fucked up in Stannis's camp. In all honesty, I think 2 is the more important point to drive home given what's to come, so ending last episode on that…
Oh my god. This episode. Perhaps it was a little rushed, but there were just soooo many goodies that I'm having a hard time finding any serious fault with it:
Renly's death was overshadowed by Brienne awesomely shitstomping those two sentries. That was a very confusing scene, emotionally speaking. I was all, "nuuuuuuu, Renly!!!!….OMG FUCK YES BRIENNE."
@The_Tuna:disqus Point taken!
Uh oh. Move over Comedy Amon, there's a new meme in town…
Yeah, I mean, the subtext of my previous post is that I'm missing the camaraderie of the original Gaang, but I think Korra's isolation is sort of the point right now, and I have some hope that her situation is going to change. I'm really enjoying this show but I do have to remind myself to appreciate it for what it is…
Pretty much. This is going to be a long week.
I'm right there with you. While not sexual, that scene was all kinds of unsettling, though in a compelling way. I'm actually starting to think that all of Korra's epic Feats of Strength are there at least in part to make the older man terrorizing a teenage girl aspect of the narrative less problematic.
Something also needs to be said for adult Aang's cheekbones. You could cut glass with those things.
@avclub-7cbaf9384cf3835106bf2f444c0bcf65:disqus Well, the US certainly jailed people they suspected were members of the Communist party in the 50's. And Roosevelt signed off on the forcible imprisonment of Japanese American citizens during WWII, solely on the basis of race. And we're throwing people into Guantanamo…
