I recall reading an interview with Mitchell Hurwitz (I think maybe here at the AVC?) wherein he explictly brings up the patriarch/matriarch/craftsman/clown structure, but described it for AD as Michael/Lindsay/Buster/GOB. I recall him remarking "because sometimes clowns do magic" to defend his view.
