I've really been surprised by the grading of these last two episodes. I thought the first half of this season was largely a total bore, with a plot that barely moved. Just when I was worried that this show was going to be a one season wonder, the second half has come around and recaptured a lot of the intensity from…
Well, this finale perfectly sums up the whole season: nonsensical. I was so blown away by last season's finale, I never imagined this show would fall this hard in its sophomore season.
If it was indeed supposed to be a pun-type line, then I'll agree. Sometimes though, the dialogue on this show can be pretty awful, so it's hard to tell with these writers. I'm also not a huge fan of making the big bad hammy though; I much prefer that sort of stuff be left to the side show villains. They did a much…
The line was so bad, that I have to assume it was meant to be purposefully goofy; at least, that's what I had to tell myself.
Black Siren: "What are you up to?"
Nothing in the back half of this season qualifies as "solid writing". There are just varying degrees of bad.
Yeah, I was borderline ready to come on here and proclaim this episode as the official "shark jump" moment; but was surprised to see the B+ rating.
Man, those scenes with the Shaman were BAAAADD. The whole "magic" element just has not worked for me at all this season, and it almost feels like the actors have trouble taking it seriously given how goofy and silly the whole idea is. I think the biggest problem I have with it is that all the magic stuff is so…
"…but that the VAST majority of shows on this site routinely receive a grade of "B" or above despite the fact that most sff on TV simply isn't that great, even when graded on a curve."
Maybe it's just that my expectations for this show are crazy low these days, but I was actually pleasantly surprised by parts of this episode. I liked that Zoom at least gave SOME explanation as to why he is allowing the main cast to live, despite how flimsy it may be. I also did not see the ending coming, so that was…
Daredevil may not be perfect, but absolutely no episode is D level quality. If this gets a D+ then every single episode of Legends of Tomorrow (the other superhero show Sava reviews) should be below that score. Sava's bias against this show is pretty obvious here.
I think it's gotten to the point where I enjoy reading the ridiculous jokes and puns that everyone on this forum makes about how stupid this show's plots are much more than I actually enjoy watching the show itself.
I thought this rating was spot-on for once. Last week's episode simply got massively overrated.
Maybe an episode where Barry loses his speed would have worked well if…ya know…any of the main plot line actually made sense. The problems are perfectly highlighted right in the beginning of the episode when Wells is discussing the fact that Zoom could come through the portals at any time and kill them. I mean, if…
Nah.
Every show is graded on its own curve. That's the problem with the AV Club review scale. Shows that are also in this genre like Flash, Arrow, Gotham, etc. have mostly received far better ratings than this season of Daredevil, despite them being borderline dogshit by direct comparison. A person who is unfamiliar with…
Did anyone else find this ending to be REALLY obvious? I actually thought for sure that Chuck WOULDN'T be recording the conversation, just because I felt that Chuck tricking Jimmy into confessing would be too cliche. Overall it was a good episode, but I don't know if I would have given this one an A.
"The Mike Ehrmentraut story is far more interesting than Jimmy / Chuck."
Seriously, I wondered this too.
