the fifth novel from 29-year-old Oyeyemi

The second half of your comment is correct, which makes the first half rather strange, since "Tarzan Boy" is awesome.

You could nod to his metal fandom with something powerballady - Foreigner's "I Want to Know What Love Is", for an offhand example. Or maybe something by Nazareth (E.g. "Love Hurts" would be perfect, except for the title and all of the lyrics).

Rose Elinor Dougall's solo album from a couple years ago was really really good, although more melancholy lo-fi synthy than girl-groupish.

True, but that probably helps keep the tickets affordable. I saw the Mekons there a couple years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. (The out-of-the-way location also means there's ample street parking, which I sometimes appreciate.)

Liked for the "154" reference.

The documentary soundtrack includes Fleetwood Mac's "Albatross", which means the score to the Zemeckis version is practically bound to be a step down.

Big yes on "Superlove". The best song she's done so far in my book.

The RSS feed has been a bit wonky - can you guys just check that it works as before?

I love the New Pornographers and all, but Newman is the band's fourth-best vocalist, and to be honest I struggle to think of a band I like with a lead vocalist I like less.

If they wanted to stress the connection to the novel, surely they wouldn't have given it the same title as the Hitchcock movie?

"Shadowtime" is by far my favorite of theirs, even though I remember not liking the rest of that album.
"Cities in Dust" would be #2.

The Punch Brothers were musically very competent, but it was a shame they just did a note-for-note cover of the original (same for some of the other highly-rated ones).

The bookmakers must view the Nobel Prize in literature as a forest made of trees literally made out of money. I don't know how many people bet on it but they are pretty much guaranteed to lose their money.

It's also terrific.

Pretty different. Try "Stranded", which is the best of the initial run of post-Eno albums - a great straight-up rock/pop album with just the occasional touch of oddness. Or try "For Your Pleasure" if you want something a little weirder/Enoier.
