As hideous as it is, I do like the idea of a giant game of Risk.  Just because these civilizations are advanced technologically, doesn't mean they're benevolent.

Exactly.  Even if you can travel near the speed of light, stars, especially out here in the galactic boondocks, are still huge distances away from each other.  You're gonna want to set up outposts along the way.

Again, I agree.  Good example with the Romans.  And yes, Predator (How do you guys do Italics?) isn't an invasion story.  I'm just saying it was a good (and chilling) way to set up an Earthlings vs. Aliens story.
I could imagine a story where Aliens would cleanse the Earth to use it as a military base or for more

All good points.  For me, any story involving alien conquest requires much suspension of disbelief.  Any civilization that has mastered interstellar travel would have the technology to subdue earths' population in short order.   Actually "Predator" came up with the great idea of having the alien hunting earthlings as

I'm thinking TPTB don't want to make viewers uncomfortable by bringing up the Native American parallel.  God forbid any actual historical issues/ideas are discussed, you might distract people from the crap your selling in the commercials.

Sorry hipsters, I saw them play a couple years ago.  It was friggin' awesome!

**MINOR BREAKING BAD SPOILERS** I've been speeding through the Breaking Bad re-runs on AMC.  I like how creative Walt is with the SCIENCE in the early going.  It's almost like Lennon/McCartney in their Rubber Soul/Revolver period.  The ideas to cook, the RV, the equiptment from the lab, the fulminated mercury bomb,

Even as a youngster during Mad Magazines' heyday (mid 60's?) I never thought Mad was all that funny.  I'm surprised at all the nostalgic love.  I really surprised it's still published.
